Art festival week 3

this week my group changed our movie plan... AGAIN. But we got lots of recordings done and it looks pretty good. It's about a girl that disappeared at a school and we were telling a story about it and adding flashbacks of the girls view. We think it's going to look really effective, and its close to being completed so we hope it turns out good.

Art festival week 2

Today we got a little bit done but we weren't able to record our original filming because two of our crucial members that need to be in the recording but we did some practices of taping my phone to my chest, practising the course and filming to see how it would look. It turned out to look decent, the camera was a little bit wobbly but we need to figure out a way to tape it to my head so when i look down it can see the jumps/stunts.

Art festival week 1

For kete I'm in the film group for the festival of the arts and my group is called anonymous, the members of my group are Kiera, Jordan, and Tanaya. Our group did this plan where we would do this horror movie. We started recording today and it turned out it was way harder than we thought. We have decided to do this zombie chase with go pros. We reckon it's going to be really cool and we hope it turns out good!

Maori Timeline - Quail island

We read a Maori myth on how quail island was crated and here is what we found out...

Sons of sky father and earth mother sailed down to earth to meet their mother.

The sons, led by Aoraki, sailed around Gaia in Te Waka o Aoraki but decided they were unimpressed, so prepared to go back to the sky.

Before they could leave, their waka hit a reef and tipped sideways.

The brothers sat on the side of the waka and eventually turned to stone becoming the southern alps- Aoraki Mt Cook, Rakirua Mt Teichelmann, Rakirua Mt Dampier and Rarakiroa Mt Tasmin.

When the waka failed to return, Aorakis grandson tracked a journey to find them.
He found the wreck and mourned their deaths.

How The Earth Was Created....

Leprosy story

In 1906 I, WIll Vallane admitted to Christchurch hospital that i was diagnosed with a disease called Leprosy, it was a disease that would affect your skin and nerves of the cooler region of the body- particularly the nose, throat, voice-box, fingers, and toes. It had even affected my eyesight and so it had been failing so sight was more of a blur to me.I was so contagious even people from a range of 2 meters from me could become infected. They immediately isolated me and moved me to quail island so I could no longer harm or affect anyone else.

I had been put in a large hospital and had difficulty trying to get comfortable in such a large open space just for myself. In 1907 the department of health constructed me a hut so I could be able to live the rest of my years being at least in a comfortable surrounding. Let's not forget, leprosy is incurable so until the government had something better to do with me i would stay isolated on this island.

The doctor would visit me once a month and relatives would visit me occasionally or every now and then. I had a caretaker on the island, Mr. Thomas. He would come to my house to feed me since i was not capable of doing it myself due to my eyesight. Although he was not allowed near me he would put my food down in a spot and back away so I could walk myself over to go get it, i wasn't able to do much but he would turn music on the gramophone for me. It would keep me settled during the day. He would as well hand me books to well, read, more like look at, i would ask for illustrated books because i love seeing the blurs of color on the page.

I got weaker by the day, and i knew myself i was slowly dying, and i was going to die alone. I had a gate around my cabin so no one could come in too close to me, and i couldn’t get out. I wish i could be able to walk around the island for the rest of my days and enjoy the water and sunny view. I wish i could’ve done a lot more than knowing that my life will end with nothing exciting to celebrate my life.

kaitiakitanga, sustainability & rahui tapu

What do kaitiakitanga, sustainability, and rahui tapu mean in relation to Quail island?

I think kaitiakitanga relates to Quail island because it's about keeping the island safe and protecting its native plants and animal/birds. They are trying to get rid of all the animals (eg. possums, rats) that are destroying the native plants, eating quail eggs, etc. Sustainability is similar to kaitiakitanga as well, it's getting rid of the bad things to keep the good things. So growing the native plants again and making sure pests don't ruin them. Rahui tapu is restrictions, so people who visit Quail island aren't allowed to pick the plants and stuff because they are trying to get them to grow and keep the population on the island back up again.

Mother Nature Crisis

Nature is our guardian.
Nature affects us and we affect nature.

We all need water, we all need flowers, its the same with ice, rain forests, and soil.

Nature doesn't need us, we need nature, the oceans have covered the earth once, they Can cover it again. Ice is what kept our earth cool, but once our planet is overheated, there's nothing we can do. Trees make us breathe, but once all the trees are gone, we are not smart enough to make our own oxygen. Flowers look innocent, so we pick them off, but without them, we don't have food, do we? The soil is treated like nothing, once our soil is gone, it will stop many sources on our earth.
If we don't take care of nature, nature wont take care of us.

Hair

We have hair everywhere whether it's visible to us or not, but why do we have it and how do we have it?
We'll talk about the small stuff first, eyelashes is a must have for girls, we want them longer and darker but why do we even have eyelashes? Or eyebrows? eyelashes protect our eyes and when dirt and dust fly at our faces it the eyelashes tries to absorb it and attempts to prevent it from getting into our eyes. Eyebrows also help and protect our eyes it may not seem needed but without eyebrows, we would have sweat dripping into our eyes all the time but the water is captured and soaked it into our eyebrows when we are in the situation of sweating. Why do we have hair on our heads? But some people go bald and everything is fine so is it even needed? The hair on our heads isn't compulsory but it helps keep our heads warm. I have never thought of this until now but how on earth do we grow hair? Where does it come from? In our head we have to light follicles, at the base of the follicle is the hair bulb where cells multiply, when our hair grows it pushes through the follicle and out of our skin, and our cells die once it bursts through so that's why we feel no pain when our hair is cut. Our hair is shiny thanks to our sebaceous (oil) glands, sometimes it pumps out too much oil and makes our hair look gReAsY. Each hair will eventually fall our every 3 years but will be replaced, on average we have 50-100 hair fall out each day and your hair only grows around half an inch per month. The color of our hair is also more interesting than we think, in our hair, we have something called melanin, the melanin is what changes our hair color.  For example, if you have blonde hair then you have less melanin, if you have darker hair it means you have more melanin. You lose melanin as you age and that's why elder people have gray and white hair.

Ethos is an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or credibility of the persuader.



This advert shows ethos because it's showing a famous artist that accordingly makes us think this drink is good. The way that makes us think this is because if you're famous and known around the globe your most likely rich right? So then when they're rich they have a huge variety of drinks they can buy but because they have a photo of them with this particular drink (diet coke) it makes audiences think that it must be a good drink.

Pathos is an appeal to emotion and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response.




This clearly explains pathos. This ad shows an emotional image that makes us people think that we are the reason there's cruelty to animals and it makes everyone's soft spot for animals come out. When an animal is in pain it lets out a daring squeak and when people see these types of ads it immediately makes people picture it in person and really emotionalises people.

Logos is an appeal to logic and is a way of persuading an audience by a reason.



This is a great clear image of logos. This advert has explained reasons why this object is good for buyers. They changed a toy and made it sound like a handy tool for people with stress, autism, and ADHD. It looks addicting and cheap but nowadays because they're so popular they've made them real expensive and that's why there are so many reasons on this particular - to try bribe people to spend their money.

Broom - a machine

BROOM

Dirty floors!! They're such a hassle so you wanna buy an expensive machine to clean (eg. vacuum)? There's a way easier solution that's cheaper and is surprisingly a machine that goes unnoticed.

A machine is something that has a force applied to it such as, pull, push, levers, etc. That even makes a broom a machine. The fulcrum of a broom that you are using would be the hand you're using closest to the ground. Your top hand then operates the lever that pivots about your bottom hand.

The bristles of the broom is actually another example of a different simple machine. Each bristle acts as a spring when it bends it wants to return to its original form. The bristles at the end of the broom are typically made of straw, hair, plastic, etc. A broom is a great help in life but it’s starting to be replaced by high-tech vacuums. A broom is a daily help in life and way lighter, easier, uses less power, and isn’t loud!!

Don't waste money. Just get something simple.

High Impact Car Race Results

What did we do?

We had 3 Races.

• Fastest car race
• Furthest car race
• Car that stops closest to the green line

It's pretty simple on how they worked. Which car can go the fastest, which car can stop the furthest, and which car can stop closest to the green line. Everyone had the same car and we had a completely free choice of what materials we wanted to use to improve our vehicle and even what measurement we want our slope to be (mine was 32 degrees) so everyone had a fair choice!

The effects of my modifications

On my car, we used clay and made an aerodynamic based car by putting a sloped on the sides and placing a spoiler on the back. This made it go really fast but not quite as far. Either way, I'm still really proud of my model (car no. 5)

The results

These results are based on the furthest car. As you can see the best results is the more obvious one (car no. 7) that has reached more than 4.5 meters! The lowest one was car no.4 who has gotten way below 1.5 meters :( My car was no. 5 and i had quite a low score as i had said on the effects of my modifications.

These results are based on the fastest car. The numbers on the left are in seconds so we are looking for the shortest bar. My group had just gotten 1 second but we were beaten by car no. 6 who had gotten below 1 second!

The Physics Of Car Racing:

1. What has been done to make this a 'fair test'?

• All the cars are the exact same
• They all have to drive forward
• We all have a selection of choice of what materials we want on the car.

2. What forces are needed to make the car go faster
and now have you modified your car accordingly?

We need to add some weight (eg. a stone) on the front to make thrust (creates acceleration). If we add it to the back it will spin around and fail the race.

3. What forces are needed to make the car stop and
what adjustments have you made to try & stop it by the line?

Add something such as a parachute to create drag (attempts slowing the car down) and Friction (stops the car).

4. What forces are needed to make the car travel further
and what adjustments have you made to achieve this?

A balanced force; if something is NOT moving it will continue to not move; if something IS moving it will continue to move at the same speed and in the same direction.
